Clinton Township Police Search Home, Take Person of Interest in Custody in Double Murder Case

A person of interest was taken into custody but charges against that person were not filed by Wednesday afternoon in connection to the deaths of a mother and child in the township, police said.

Clinton Township police are continuing their investigation into the deaths of a mother and daughter found Tuesday afternoon in their apartment in the Harper and Metro Parkway area.

"During the course of the investigation, we did a search warrant on a residence," Capt. Richard Maierle told Patch Wednesday of the Tuesday night raid at an undisclosed home in the township.

A person was taken into custody at that time for questioning. That person's relationship to the victims -- 47-year-old Tina Geiger and her 11-year-old daughter Krissy -- was not released. No charges were filed by Wednesday afternoon, he said.

"Homicide investigations are quite complex and I think we made a lot of progress, said Maierle, adding more investigative work is underway.

Police said a caregiver or guardian, who was checking on the mentally challenged pair after not hearing from them, contacted the apartment manager who gained access Tuesday afternoon to the unit. There were no signs of forced entry. The attacker used a cutting instrument, police said.

Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz told Patch that he conducted autopsies on the victims Wednesday but declined to immediately release results or the estimated time of death, citing the ongoing police investigation and additional examination work needed.
