Clinton Township Mother, Daughter Found Slain in Apartment

Investigators are searching for a suspect in the double homicide.

Updated: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

Clinton Township detectives are investigating the deaths of a 47-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter who were found around 3 p.m. Tuesday in their apartment.

The mother and child, both of whom were mentally impaired, were discovered inside the Parkway Village Apartments in the Metro Parkway and Harper area, township police Capt. Richard Maierle told Patch.

A caregiver or guardian, checking on the pair after not hearing from them, contacted the apartment manager who gained access to the unit. There were no signs of forced entry, Maierle said.

Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz is expected to conduct autopsies on the victims Wednesday. Police did not give a specific cause of death Tuesday, pending the autopsy results. However, they said the attacker used a cutting instrument.

Local residents told police that the mother and daughter could frequently be seen walking to a nearby convenience store to get Slurpees. Their identities were not released by Tuesday evening because police were trying to contact family to notify them of the deaths.

There are no known suspects at this time. Anyone with information should contact police at 586-493-7840.
