Pope Benedict XVI will retire Thursday, and the process to select his successor will begin.
At 8 p.m. Thursday in Rome (2 p.m. in Clinton Township), Pope Benedict XVI will become the first pope in more than 600 years to retire. The cardinals of the Roman Catholic church are currently meeting in Rome this week to bid farewell to Pope Benedict as well as to decide when the conclave will begin to elect the next pope. The church has said it plans to have a new pope in place before Easter on March 31. Speculation has already started on who might be the next pope, but most sources say an American pope is unlikely, despite approximately one-fourth of the U.S. population describing itself as Catholic, according to a recent study by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. Who Will Win Super Bowl XLVII?

Are you—like millions of other people—ready for some football? More importantly, who do you think will win, the San Francisco 49ers or the Baltimore Ravens? The NFL will hold Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, and, though the Lions won’t be playing in it (as always), there are reasons for Michiganders to tune in to the big game. Michigan residents should love 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, who starred at quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines in the mid-1980s. What did you like about the auto show? That’s what we want to know as the North American International Auto Show enters its final weekend at Detroit’s Cobo Hall. The auto show drew large crowds in the first weekend, according to the Detroit News. As always, there were lots of cool cars, from Jaguars to Corvettes. Do you believe light rail is a good investment for Detroit? That’s the question this week after the light rail circulator project along Woodward Avenue in Detroit received $25 million in federal funding. The proposed 3.3-mile light rail circulator will have 11 stations on Woodward running from downtown to New Center, according to a press release. Light rail has the support of many business and political leaders, including Roger Penske, the chairman of M-1 RAIL, and Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. “Investing in infrastructure and transportation projects like this are absolutely vital to our economic recovery, and this important funding will make the M-1 project a reality and bring with it nearly 2,000 jobs for the region,” U.S. Rep. John, there are all kinds of 'free' iron manhole covers that the scrappers seem to refuse as well. The carts will survive. Regarding walking down a dark Woodward ave at night, not a problem in Birmingham, Royal Oak, etc, or do you mean Detroit? What is the State of the Economy in 2013?

What is the state of the economy in 2013? That’s the question we’re asking this week, and we would like to know what you think. The Labor Department released a report Friday that said employers added 155,000 jobs in December, according to NPR. The Big Three automakers are poised for a big 2013, according to the Detroit Free Press. And the stock market closed the week at a bull market high, according to the USA Today. With that news, do you feel optimistic about the economy in 2013? Are the nation’s financial fortunes turning the corner, or do you feel like there is still trouble ahead? My opinion is that if you served active duty fighting you should get Cadillac health care benefits for life and a reasonable pension. NOT the government bureaucrats. Obama’s health care takeover is for the masses, but not for Washington – they keep their Cadillacs. THANK YOU Retired Army Veteran for your service to this country to keep all of us safe.
