Jay Miller was charged with lying to police in a violent crime investigation and resisting and obstructing police. He is being held in Macomb County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 cash/surety bond following the afternoon 41B District Court proceeding, according to township police and court officials.
Township Capt. Richard Maierle said Miller is their person of interest in a double murder of Tina Geiger, 47, and 11-year-old daughter Kristina who were found Tuesday afternoon in their apartment in the Harper and Metro Parkway area.
Miller has not been charged with the murders at this time and police did not disclose further information about his relationship to the victims. Investigators confirmed, however, that Miller's residence was raided Tuesday night in the Kingsbrooke Apartments near Garfield and he was taken into custody at the time for questioning.
"The investigation is continuing," said Maierle, adding police are still seeking tips in this case.
A preliminary exam for the crimes Miller was charged with Friday -- a four-year felony and a two-year misdemeanor -- is set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 12, according to 41B District Court.
An apartment manager found the victims inside their unit after a caregiver or guardian could not reach them. They had been killed with an undisclosed cutting instrument, police said.
Mourners gathered in the community Thursday to express shock and sadness about the violent crime against the beloved pair and hope that their attacker would be caught.
