Erie Elementary School Awarded $60,000 Grant Becoming Macomb County's First Leader in Me School

Erie Elementary School is Macomb County's first Leader in Me school. September 2013 marks the beginning of a new school year of leadership, where students know their strengths and take the lead.

Beginning fall 2013, Erie Elementary School, of Clinton Township, begins its Leader in Me transformation preparing for an unprecedented school year. The Leader in Me is a 21st century leadership model based on Steven Covey’s bestselling book the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  A teacher-written grant proposal was accepted by I Am a Leader Foundation awarding Erie with training and materials totaling over $60,000.

Erie joins 38 other Leader in Me schools in Michigan and over 1,100 schools worldwide.  This unique leadership approach works from the inside out, reaching beyond the school walls.  It’s all inclusive; every student is a leader and recognized for their strengths.  It’s ubiquitous; it’s not one more thing to do, but the principles that guide our actions.  The Leader in Me provides a common 21st century language: Be proactive, Begin with the end in mind, Think win-win, Put first things first, Seek first to understand, then to be understood, Synergize and Sharpen the Saw.

The Erie community is 100% committed to unleashing the power of leadership based on what parents, community members, business leaders and educators want for our children and our future.
