New Owners to Transform Dimitri’s Rendezvous into Banquet, Catering Center

Catering 2 You recently purchased the now closed Dimitri's Rendezvous on Gratiot with plans to remodel the entire building and open a banquet and catering facility sometime next year.

Clinton Township-based Catering 2 You recently purchased the former Dimitri’s Rendezvous restaurant on Gratiot and plans to convert the building into a catering facility. The new business, which does not yet have a name, may open by the end of this year or early 2013.

The building is located at 36217 South Gratiot Ave., between 15 and 16 mile roads in Clinton Township.

Brother and sister team Frank Trucano and Lynn Nagorski own Catering 2 You and purchased Dimitri’s to expand their catering options. Catering 2 You, which is currently located in the Countryside Plaza on Hayes, does not offer on-site catering, although there is a commercial kitchen and retail storefront.

“This was the perfect opportunity for us to expand, which is something we’ve been looking into for years," Nagorski said. "We were waiting for the right time and this was a venture we could not pass up."

The new facility will host events such as weddings, showers and business meetings for up to 300 guests. Off-site catering will continue and operate out of the new location. Trucano will continue to serve as head chef.

Nagorski said the new site will undergo extensive renovations and that her and Trucano are currently working with architects to determine the best remodel. It will be completely different from the way the building appeared when it was Dimitri’s Rendezvous.

“The building will be gutted out,” she said.

Banquet facilities are not a new venture for Nagorski’s and Trucano’s family. Their father, also named Frank Trucano, opened the Mirage Banquet Center on 18 Mile in Clinton Township and operated the facility for several years after. He sold the Mirage about 10 years ago and has since passed away.

Catering 2 You offers breakfast and lunch options; BBQ and traditional buffets, gourmet options, and appetizer and dessert menus. They received the WDIV award for Best Caterer.

Dimitri’s Rendezvous closed in May after 35 years in business.

Catering 2 You is taking suggestions for names on its Facebook page. The winner will be invited to join the facility's grand opening celebration.
