Former Emerald Theatre to Reopen as New Music, Banquet Venue in April

The historic vaudeville and movie theater on North Walnut Street in downtown Mount Clemens is the new home of the Macomb Music Theatre.

A Mount Clemens architectural treasure will start a new chapter in its 92-year history this spring when it reopens as the Macomb Music Theatre.

Built in 1921 as a vaudeville theater and movie house, and most recently home to the Emerald Theatre, the building at 31 North Walnut St. is now under the ownership of Wally Mona, of Lucky’s Liquor Shoppe LLC, and Birmingham-based entertainment attorney Marc Beginin.

Working to restore the theater, which was designed by famed movie palace architect C. Howard Crane, Mona and Beginin plan to open a mixed-use entertainment facility that can be used as both concert venue and banquet center.

The new Macomb Music Theatre will host its first show April 13, and feature jazz saxophonist Gerald Albright, guitarist Norman Brown and pianist Alex Bugnon.

Mona and Beginin have also purchased the neighboring Johnny G's, which will provide the kitchen area needed to support the theatre's snack and catering needs, according to The Macomb Daily.
