Clinton Township Couple Open Third Sweet Business with Coach's Candy

Coach's Candy, at Moravian and Garfield, is owned and operated by Clinton Township residents Jon and Jenessa Price and their family.

Business at the corner of Moravian and Garfield just got a little bit sweeter.

Coach’s Candy, the third “sweet” business of Clinton Township residents Jon and Jenessa Price, opened in May but celebrated its grand opening with family, friends and the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 27

“We’re trying to corner the sweet-tooth market in Clinton Township,” said Jon Price, who also owns Coach’s Ice Cream on Dodge Park in Sterling Heights and a Kona Ice truck that serves events across the county.

A physical education teacher at Stevenson High School, Jon Price first ventured into the sweet business 12 years ago when his mother gave him the idea to open an ice cream shop. His students inspired the name.

“I was coaching a lot of sports and no one really knew my name, they just called me ‘Coach,’” Jon Price said, and so Coach’s Ice Cream was born.

Shave ice followed and candy was the obvious choice to complete the Price family's sweet-business trifecta.

“We’re involved in sweets, so what better than candy?” said Jenessa Price, who drew inspiration for the new store from the old-time candy shops she visited as a child.

Boasting hundreds of different candy varieties, the store also offers a birthday room for kids, like all Coach’s businesses, offers numerous fund-raising opportunities for local organizations and schools.

“We want to have a positive impact and bring the community back together,” said Jenessa Price. “We’re heavily involved in fund-raisers.”

Coach's Candy is located at 36558 Moravian Drive, east of Garfield. The store is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
