Gifts for Him

1. As the old-saying goes, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

Treat him to a gourmet meal at J. Baldwin's, voted  Best New American Restaurant in 2012 by Detroit A-List, and Best of Detroit 2012 by Hour Detroit Magazine.

2. Not a gourmet guy? There's always dessert.

If you can't afford to fly to Rome, there's always Dolce Gelato Cafe for authentic Italian ice cream.

3. Bring back the nightcap and get him something to warm up those cold winter nights.

Consider a fine sipping liquor, such as Rémy Martin cognac or Di Saronno Originale. These and other liquors are available at your corner Original Buscemi's or party store.

Gifts for Her

1. A bottle with her name on it.

Filipo Marc Winery will craft a custom label for a bottle of your sweetheart's favorite vintage, or you can set up a private wine tasting for just you two. Call 586-226-3990 for details.

2. Tickets to a musical or play.

Not all Valentine's Day gifts have to come on Feb. 14. A stage-version of the beloved Jane Austen novel Pride & Prejudice is coming to the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts Feb. 21-21 and the Tony award-winning musical A Chorus Line will be there March 8-9. Buy your tickets online and surprise her with them tonight. Check out the center's full schedule.

3. Go traditional.

You can never go wrong with chocolate and flowers. They're an irresistible combination and one you can still grab last minute. Head to Morley Candy Factory or The Mall at Partridge Creek for your gal's favorite candy, then stop by English Gardens for a few longstem roses. If you get stuck on the flowers, there are a number of Clinton Township florists who will no doubt have extra blooms on hand for situations just like yours.
