War on Terrorism Memorial to Add Fallen Clinton Township Marine's Name

U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Vincent J. Bell was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in November 2011.

One of Clinton Township's fallen heroes will be forever remembered this spring when his name is inscribed on the “Heart of America,” Macomb County’s first memorial to the servicemen and women killed in the war on terrorism.

U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Vincent J. Bell was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in November 2011, but was not included on the monument when it was unveiled this past summer, The Macomb Daily reports.

This exception was due to monument officials being unable to confirm his residency in Macomb County.

It was Bell's mother, Pamela, who notified officials of the oversight and provided the necessary military records to confirm her son's Clinton Township residency and right to space on the monument, according to The Macomb Daily.

Bell’s name will be engraved on the memorial next Memorial Day. A career Marine, Bell served four tours in Iraq and volunteered for duty in Afghanistan. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
