Snacking Shoplifter Found with Marijuana, Morphine Arrested in Clinton Township

Snacking shoplifter arrested at Meijer
A 33-year-old man was arrested Feb. 2 after Meijer store employees caught him snacking on sushi and donuts, and attempting to pay a lesser price for items on which he switched the price tags, Clinton Township police say.
Meijer employees told police the man entered the Groesbeck store around midnight Feb. 2 and was seen switching price tags on multiple items, including a hoodie and jacket. While in the grocery section, the suspect also picked up packages of sushi and donuts, eating two of each, according to the police report.
The suspect was stopped by Meijer loss prevention at the self-checkout as he attempted to ring up items at lesser prices from the tags he had switched. He was taken to the store office to await police, according to the report.
When police arrived the suspect was also found with a baggie of marijuana and several morphine pills that he admitted were his, police say. He was arrested for retail fraud and possession of a controlled substance.
Repeat shoplifter strikes again
A 51-year-old woman was arrested for retail fraud Jan. 29 after police say she concealed two shirts and a ball of yarn in her purse and left the Groesbeck Meijer without attempting to pay.
Meijer employees told police this is not the first time the woman, or her daughter, have taken merchandise from the store and later returned it for gift cards, according to the report.
Police stopped the woman a short distance from the store and a search of her vehicle uncovered several items that had been reported stolen from other Meijer stores in the area, according to police.
The woman was arrested for retail fraud. The daughter, who was also in the vehicle, has not been charged.
Teen hides Pioneer speakers in pants
An 18-year-old man was arrested Jan. 31 for attempting to steal a pair of Pioneer speakers from the Walmart on Hall Road, according to police.
Employees told police the man was seen removing the speakers from their packaging and concealing them in the front of his pants, according to the police report. The man attempted to leave without paying, but was stopped by store employees, police say.
He was issued a citation for retail fraud, according to the police report.
