UPDATED 8:10 p.m. Tuesday--Clinton Township police continue to search for the lone gunman who opened fire on a gas station clerk Tuesday morning during an attempted robbery.
Police say that at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, the gunman entered the Mobil gas station near Harper Avenue and Denton Street and shot the 42-year-old clerk four times, including once in the eye.
When the gunman was unable to open the computer-operated cash register, he fled the scene.
Det. Capt. Richard Maierle said the suspect was wearing at least three layers of clothing and a scarf to conceal his face at the time of the robbery. He is described as a black male, between 5’7” and 5’10”. Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance video.
The clerk has since undergone surgery for his bullet wounds, but his current condition is unknown, Maierle said.
